Following Google’s announcement that it will forego its initiative to end third-party cookies, the World Wide Web Consortium reiterated its concerns and argued third-party cookies must be removed. “Third-party cookies are not good for the web. They enable tracking, which involves following your activity across multiple websites,” the organization said, adding they can be used for “surveillance or ad-targeting purposes.” W3C said Google’s announcement “came out of the blue” and that it hopes the company reverses its decision.
