UK’s CMA empowered to issue administrative rulings under DMCCA

Under the U.K.’s new consumer protection regime as part of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024, the Competition and Markets Authority has been empowered to investigate corporations’ actions that undermine consumer trust and better assist companies making good faith compliance efforts. The new regime allows the CMA to issue rulings on consumer protection laws, instead of pursuing court cases and take actions, such as consumer redress or issue fines for violations.
