The U.K. Data (Use and Access) Bill was given Royal Assent 19 June. Parts of the law take effect immediately while other aspects require secondary regulations to be implemented. The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology highlighted the law’s economic benefits as well as its provisions for identity verification. Information Commissioner John Edwards said the Information Commissioner’s Office will “launch new guidance, open consultations, and provide practical tools to help embed the (DUAA’s) principles into everyday operations.”
