Netherlands’ DPA fines pharmacy chain for placing tracking cookies on website

The Netherlands’ data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, issued a 600,000 euro fine to the parent company of the pharmacy chain Kruidvat for allegedly placing tracking cookies on its website without user knowledge or consent. The AP reportedly found the parent company Watson created personal profiles on customers by collecting sensitive information, such as the types of medications patients obtained.
