Meta’s Threads won’t launch in EU ‘at this point’

A spokesperson for Ireland’s Data Protection Commission said Meta’s new Twitter alternative, Threads, will not be launched in the EU “at this point,” Independent.ie reports. Meta has not prepared Threads for a launch in the EU, where it would be governed by the EU General Data Protection Regulation and EU privacy rules like the Digital Markets Act. Threads imports data from Meta’s Instagram and tells U.S. users that it collects health, financial, location, search and other data.
