Latvia’s DPA issues guidance for personal data sharing within private social media groups

Latvia’s State Data Inspectorate released guidance following complaints about personal information being shared in private social media groups without the individuals’ consent. The guidance claimed sharing individuals personal information within a private group is allowed and is not a data protection violation if the information does not involve sensitive data. The DPA said it is “not responsible for resolving personal relationships or verifying the lawfulness of data processing carried out within the framework of these relationships.”
