ICO warns social media platforms over insufficient children’s privacy safeguards

The U.K. Information Commissioner’s Office urged 11 social media platforms to bolster their children’s privacy practices after the agency found a lack of safeguards for underage users. ICO Deputy Commissioner Emily Keaney said social media platforms have “a duty of care to children” and “poorly designed products and services can leave children at risk of serious harm from abuse, bullying and even loss of control of their personal information.”
