The U.K. Information Commissioner’s Office issued a warning to companies not to disregard data protection risks when launching artificial intelligence-powered chatbots. The ICO cited its investigation into Snap’s “My AI” chatbot launch amid concerns that the company was not adequately assessing potential data protection risks, which resulted in it issuing a preliminary enforcement notice 6 Oct. 2023. The ICO will release its final decision in the Snap case in the next several weeks.
