Garante fines construction firm for using private messages to terminate employee

Italy’s data protection authority, the Garante, issued a 420,000 euro fine to roadway maintenance firm Autostrade. The company allegedly processed the personal information of an employee without consent and used the information to terminate employment. Another recent Garante action includes issuing a 4,000 euro fine to a university for its alleged use of a biometric fingerprint scanner for registering employees’ attendance.
