The European Commission opened an investigation into Meta regarding alleged insufficient protections for minors online under the EU Digital Services Act. The Commission claimed compliance concerns related to age verification systems used by Instagram and Facebook, and their algorithms may stimulate addictive behavior among children, creating a so-called “rabbit hole” effect.
