Estonia’s DPI files appeal over decision to allow license plate recognition cameras

Estonia’s Data Protection Inspectorate filed an appeal with the Ministry of the Interior urging the government to reassess guidelines for law enforcement use of license plate recognition cameras. DPI Director General Pille Lehis said the use of “technology to ensure security is understandable and necessary, but it cannot happen without a clear and transparent legal framework” that complies with the EU General Data Protection Regulation.
