CNIL orders ministries to strengthen data protection standards

France’s data protection authority, the Commission nationale de l’informatique et des libertés, warned the Ministry of the Interior and Overseas Territories and the Ministry of Justice they must strengthen their security measures during the processing of criminal records. The CNIL said the ministries’ standards allegedly violate the Data Protection Act by collecting citizens’ data without consent and failing to delete inaccurate and outdated information.
