Sweden’s data protection authority, Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten, completed a regulatory sandbox initiative examining how personal data can be used to create synthetic data for AI training. The sandbox was conducted along with the law firm Familjens Jurist, which wanted to use the information to train an AI system on custody cases. While synthetic data has upshots from a privacy perspective, the agency noted creating it out of personal data means processors need to comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation.
