Netherlands’ DPA to probe health care providers’ data protection practices

Netherlands’ data protection authority, the Autoiteitpersoonsgegevens, said it plans to conduct random visits to health care providers as part of its efforts to monitor patient data handling practices. The AP will be looking at how providers protect data from improper access and against hackers and data leaks as required under the EU General Data Protection Regulation. The inspections also come after the AP saw more than 6,800 data breach reports from the health and welfare sectors in 2024, the most it has seen.
