The European Commission is investigating whether Google’s AI Overview and AI Mode offerings violate EU competition rules in relation to the alleged nonconsensual use of online written and video content to train products without offering compensation. The Commission noted material on YouTube, which is owned by Google, is used to train its AI models but bars other developers from using that same content. Google told Reuters the complaint risked stifling innovation.
