EU FRA report underscores high-risk AI’s potential impacts on fundamental rights

The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights published a report finding that many developers and deployers of high-risk AI systems do not know how to mitigate risks that may have adverse impacts on citizens’ rights. The report explored the development and use of high-risk AI in the areas of claiming political asylum, education, employment, law enforcement and public benefits. Per the report, the FRA’s recommendations include broadening the definition of AI to account for upholding fundamental rights and establishing clear guidance for conducting impact assessments.
