CJEU determines publishing anti-doping law violator’s names not aligned with GDPR

The Court of Justice of the European Union ruled publishing the name of an athlete charged with violating anti-doping rules violates the EU General Data Protection Regulation. Advocate General Dean Spielmann said it was doubtful there is a proportionate need to publish detailed information about infractions and that pseudonymized data could still deter athletes from violating the law.
