European Commission releases draft AI Act guidance, templates for reporting serious incidents

On Friday, the European Commission released draft guidance and a reporting template for serious incidents under the EU AI Act. “This new obligation, set out in Article 73, aims to detect risks early, ensure accountability, enable quick action, and build public trust in AI technologies,” a Commission release stated. The provisions will become applicable starting in August 2026. The draft guidance “clarifies definitions, offers practical examples, and explains how the new rules relate to other legal obligations.” The consultation process will be open until 7 Nov.
