ICO issues guidance for preventing student insider cyberattacks against schools

The U.K. Information Commissioner’s Office published guidance for preventing insider cyberattacks against school networks perpetrated by students. The ICO reviewed 215 personal data breaches caused by insider attacks originating in the education field between January 2022 and August 2024 and found 57% of incidents were caused by students and 30% of incidents involved students using stolen login credentials by inputting easily-guessed weak passwords.
