95% of popular websites pass ICO’s cookie compliance check

The U.K. Information Commissioner’s Office published results from its latest cookie sweep of the 1,000 most popular websites, finding 95% were in compliance. The compliance assessment focused on evaluating if nonessential cookies were embedded on devices before a user had a chance to provide consent, if it was easy to reject nonessential cookies and if those cookies had been embedded despite a user rejecting them. Meanwhile, the U.K. Office of Communications fined AVS Group, an operator of 18 adult content websites, 1 million GBP for allegedly not utilizing adequate age assurance checks, and another 50,000 GBP for not responding to the OfCom inquiry.
